How to Improve Warehouse Efficiency

The UK warehouse has become a fast-paced environment  for sophisticated tech, critical data and intelligent decision making. With margins tightening, the need for an efficient warehouse, with or without sophisticated technology is an imperative for every operation.

As some businesses choose fixed automated systems, others are recognising the flexibility of the forklift truck, which won’t be nailed down (to the floor or to one specific task). As the sole importers and distributors of HELI Forklifts, the Grant Handling team has developed a good understanding of how flexible forklifts improve the efficiency in any warehouse and can complement automated and semi-automated systems.  They are only a phone call away.

A Warehouse Floor for Viral Products

Forklifts can handle non-uniform, oversized, or odd-shaped items that automated systems aren’t programmed to manage. They can operate in warehouses with frequently changing layouts – in ecommerce for example – which can be more challenging for automated system which require reprogramming or reconfiguration.

With a global ecommerce market expected to total $4.8 trillion in 2025, a warehouse with a high-degree of flexibility is one which can manage extreme peaks efficiently.

Have you purchased anything from the TikTok shop yet? TikTok hooks buyers quickly and sends trending-product demand sky high. It’s even taking market share from the likes of Alibaba and Amazon and pushing business to smaller warehouses where the forklift is king.

With forklift Trucks you can adjust layouts to prioritise high-demand products and add temporary storage for seasonal (or social media) inventory surges. And you rarely need to reprogramme the humans you have in place to help you do this efficiently. And it’s not just casual dresses which go viral. Amazon’s flat-pack ‘tiny homes’ is a good example of larger items in the building/DIY sector which are taking up space. (Although unlikely to break the UK market with current building regulations.)

The Heli Order Picker 90 KG is a good example of a safe and efficient solution for a flexible warehouse floor. It offers a lift height of 3000mm and a picking height of 5000mm for loads up to 90kg. Its electronic power steering enhances manoeuvrability, reducing operator strain and fatigue associated with manual handling and ladder use.

The ergonomic design features independent fingertip controls, adjustable front tray, and a compact frame, facilitating faster and more comfortable stock picking and placement.

Agility on the Warehouse Floor

Forklift trucks can easily shift between different types of tasks (e.g., unloading trucks, restocking shelves, or transporting items), which leaves automated systems – if you have them – to be more task-specific.

Heli’s Electric Counterbalance Fork Lift Trucks in particular, are designed for flexibility. Its 4-wheel electric forklifts feature three speed modes, tailored for different applications:

S (Slow/Energy Efficient Mode): Prioritises efficiency for lighter tasks.

E (Economical Mode): Standard mode for balanced performance.

P (Performance Mode): Designed for heavy lifting and steep inclines.

Warehouse efficiency doesn’t have to be a leap of faith. It can be an agile response to shifting trends. It can be a counterbalance forklift truck and an order picker.HELI are a manufacturer synonymous with reliability, quality, and affordability with Grant Handling its a combination that delivers an efficient warehouse.
