Which Pallet Stacker is right for you?

Heli Stacker Warehouse

A Pallet Stacker is an enhanced version of a Pallet Truck, the main differentiator being the stacker is able to lift and store pallets up to heights of 5m, whereas the Pallet Truck can only move pallets at ground level.

Yet, the Pallet Stacker is also a true alternative to a counterbalance forklift if utilised correctly. Due to its lift capabilities, like a forklift, it is able lift loads into and from your racking. It can be more efficient in narrow aisles, even ones forklifts are able to navigate. The Pallet Stacker is productive and efficient like a Pallet Truck and versatile and sturdy enough to lift loads like a forklift. Below we will discuss the variety of options available to you.

At Grant Handling, we offer 5 types of Heli Pallet Stacker ranges to our clients, Stackers with Wrapover Forks, Straddle Stackers, Counterbalance Reach Stackers, Counterbalance Pedestrian Stackers and Pantograph Stackers.

Stackers with Wrapover forks:

The Heli Stackers with Wrapover forks offers the benefits of a Heli Powered Pallet Truck with the additional benefit of being able to lift open based pallets to and from your racking. The Heli 1600Kg Stacker with Triplex Mast is able to lift to a height of 5 meters.  Stackers with Wrapover forks are ideal for warehouse environments with racking, especially warehouses with narrow aisles where counterbalance forklifts are unable to efficiently navigate or even access. They are perfect for lifting light to medium loads to heights, meaning if your forklift is active elsewhere, product can still me moved. If the pallets you wish to move are not open, then this is not the stacker for you, as it can damage and even break closed pallets during the lifting process.

Straddle Stackers:

Heli Straddle Stackers are able to lift both open and closed bottom pallets, making them a versatile option in the right environment. Highly manoeuvrable and able to lift heavier loads than most Wrapover fork stackers, this is a true warehouse favourite. It should be noted however that despite being able to lift both open and closed pallets, if the racking has a bottom bar or framework to it, then the Straddle Stacker is unable to access the racking.

Straddle Stackers are also perfect in the absence of racking, they are specialised in floor stacking. They can stack pallets in a compact manner, utilising space in smaller warehouse units such as greenhouses and workshops.

Pantograph Stackers:

If you have double deep racking, then Pantograph Stackers are your ideal solution. There specialised scissor mast means they can lift loads in and from the deep racking.

Counterbalance Stackers – Reach:

The Heli Counterbalance Stackers – Reach is the cost-effective solution against the forklift truck. It can be used to lift a variety of pallet types and enclosed shelves, in both indoor and outdoor applications and in small spaces. Their masts can move away from the body and be retracted back, which reduces passage width. The 1400kg Triplex Mast Pedestrian Reach Stacker can lift up to 5.5 meters high, the counterbalance; provides excellent stability.

Counterbalance Stackers – Pedestrian:

Sturdy and versatile our range of compact and ergonomic range of Heli Counterbalance Stackers are capable of handling open and closed pallets and with the ride-on platform, they are able to move loads across longer distances than other pedestrian units. The Counterbalance Stacker also offers great manoeuvrability, meaning it can operate in narrow aisles and is perfectly suited to a warehouse environment.

How do you know which Pallet Stacker is right for you?

When considering the right Pallet Stacker for your business, you need to evaluate the following:

Size of load and lift height: Loads lifted at height depend on the capacity the equipment is able to lift. You need to select a Pallet Stacker that is capable to move and lift your loads to the heights you require.

Location: Like any materials handling equipment, you need to consider the space a Pallet Stacker will operate within. Are the aisles narrow, are there any obstacles that may cause the operator issues, for example, low level beams or lighting.

Pallet Type: As discussed above, there are specific Pallet Stackers designed to move open or closed pallets.

Usage: The frequency of use is an important consideration; a Manual Pallet Stacker is not ideal for a busy operation and increases the risk of physical strain/injury to the operator.

Power Source: The type of battery is dependent on two main factors, the frequency of use and the environment the Pallet Stacker is operating within. For example, if your operation requires a clean power source, a lithium-ion powered Pallet Stacker would be an ideal solution.

Safety first.

It is important to understand, all stackers should only be used by trained operators and Grant Handling is able to provide the appropriate levels of training to reduce workplace accidents and meet your legal obligations.
